Amy Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State junior Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) has been named a CoSIDA District II Academic All American. A 2011 First Team All-Big Ten selection and All-American selection, Amy sports a 3.79 GPA in the classroom and is majoring in Art.

Amy is coming off a phenomenal season, where she earned first team All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Tournament MVP. The junior finished tied for first in the conference in goals (25) and points (57). Her 25 goals in 2011 were the seventh most in a season for a Penn State player. Her 52 career goals rank eighth all-time in program history.

Penn State was recognized last month by Gladiatior and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for sporting a team GPA above 3.0. In addition, the Nittany Lions had nine players named to the Gladiator Division I National Academic Squad.

For the first time since 1998, Penn State was crowned the Big Ten Tournament champions, after defeating the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 6 in the tournament championship game. The Big Ten champion Nittany Lions finished the season with a 17-6 overall record and also earned an NCAA First Round victory over the Northeastern Huskies.
