UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Future Nittany Lion Ally Heavens, a midfielder from Garnet Valley, Pa., has been named a 2012 Under Armour All-American, earning an invitation to play in the seventh annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic on Saturday, June 30 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
Heavens, who will enroll at Penn State in the fall, is a key member of head coach Missy Doherty's top 10 ranked 2012 recruiting class.
"Ally is just a pure athlete," said Doherty when Heavens committed to play for the Nittany Lions late in 2011. "I'm so glad that she chose to play lacrosse at Penn State because she just has tremendous natural ability and it will be exciting to see her grow into an impact collegiate player. She is quick, versatile, and she will not only score goals, but she will also bring a defensive presence to the midfield."
Heavens is one of just 45 girls from across the nation to be recognized as an Under Armour All-American and will play for the South team in the late June all-star game.
In her senior season, Heavens has led Garnet Valley to a 20-3 record, a perfect 12-0 conference mark, a Central League championship, and the No. 4 seed in the PIAA state finals. She has totaled 51 goals and 49 assists, as the Jaguars prepare to play Manheim Township on Wednesday in the playoffs.
In 2011, Heavens posted 66 goals and 40 assists in 2011 to lead GVHS to a 24-3 record and to Central League and PIAA state championships. A four-year starter in the midfield, she earned U.S. Lacrosse Girls' High School All-American, ESPN Rise Second Team All-American, and First Team All-Delco and All-Central League honors following her standout junior season. In ESPN's 2011 top high school girls rankings, Heavens was rated as the No. 1 defender in the nation and as the No. 2 player overall.
An all-around excellent athlete, Heavens has also earned letters in soccer and basketball at Garnet Valley.
During the summer of 2011, Heavens was a member of the Philadelphia Region Under Armour All-American and PASLA Regional Mid-Atlantic Philly #1 Teams. She plays club lacrosse with Brandywine Majors Select under head coach Christy Ann Morello.
