UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Former Holy Cross starting goaltender and New England prep school coach Casey McCullion has been named an assistant coach for the Penn State women's hockey team, head coach Josh Brandwene announced Monday.
McCullion comes to Penn State with four years of coaching experience at the New England prep school level. From 2008-10, she worked alongside Brandwene at Kingswood Oxford (Conn.) as an assistant/goaltending coach. McCullion was then elevated to head coach for the 2010-11 season after Brandwene was asked to rebuild the culture in the boys' program. Prior to working at Kingswood Oxford, McCullion served as an assistant coach at Deerfield Academy (Mass.) in 2007-08.
"I am incredibly excited to be working with Casey again. She is an outstanding goaltending coach and a terrific assistant coach," said Brandwene. "The value she places on education and her experience as a teacher, advisor and mentor to young student-athletes will be a tremendous asset to our program at Penn State."
A highly successful goaltending coach, McCullion instructed three netminders who participated in USA Hockey Select Player Development Camps. While at Deerfield she worked closely with Shenae Lundberg, who captured the gold medal at the 2011 world championship with the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team.
McCullion has also worked as a coach for the Ed Snider Youth Foundation and served as a goaltending instructor at Wyvern Hockey Academy.
A four-year letter-winner at Holy Cross, McCullion earned the Rev. Francis J. Hart Memorial Award for commitment, leadership and performance. The former goaltender and 2007 graduate was also tabbed an ECAC East All-Academic Team member from 2005-07.
