Penn State Women's Tennis Team Ends Season as No. 2 Ranked Team in Region

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lion women's tennis team, under the guidance of head coach Dawna Denny, ended the 2011-12 year as the No. 2 ranked team in the final ITA Atlantic Regional rankings. Two individuals and one doubles team were ranked at season's end as well.

Penn State's No. 2 ranking in the region was second only to No. 1 Virginia. Virginia Commonwealth was No. 3, Marshall No. 4 and Virginia Tech No. 5. Maryland (6), Old Dominion (7), Georgetown (8), William and Mary (9) and Richmond (10) rounded out the top ten.

In addition to the lofty team ranking, junior Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Ontario) was ranked No. 4 in the final regional singles rankings while sophomore Chelsea Utting (Peachtree City, Ga.) was ranked No. 19. The doubles team of Januskova and Utting was ranked No. 7 in the final regional doubles rankings as well.

Januskova ended the year with a 30-8 overall mark at No. 1 singles while Utting was 20-14, primarily at the No. 2 spot. As a doubles duo, the twosome went 12-5 at No. 1 doubles. Penn State ended the campaign with a 12-11 dual meet record.
