UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Following a strong 2012 season, numerous Penn State baseball players remain active in collegiate summer leagues around the country. In total, 10 Nittany Lions are making their impact in seven different leagues as they prepare for the 2013 season.
Three Lions are playing in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Baseball League, with designated hitter and first baseman JJ White, third baseman Ryky Smith and shortstop Taylor Skerpon all playing for Myrtle Beach Sand Gnats. The trio of Nittany Lions have appeared in 10 games.
Two players are representing the Nittany Lions in the Great Lakes League. Outfielder Aaron Novak is spending his summer with the Southern Ohio Copperheads, where he has appeared in four games up to this point. Pitcher Jordan Donmoyer is also in the league, playing for the Lake Erie Monarchs. Donmoyer is 1-0 in five appearances, going 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA.
Outfielder Zach Ell is hitting .288 with four RBI and six stolen bases for the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts in the Cal Ripken League. Over in the Cape Cod League, pitcher Greg Welsh is representing Penn State for the Wareham Gatemen. Welsh has appeared in three games.
Third baseman Matt Paradise is playing for the first-place Palm Springs Power in the Southern California Collegiate League. Additionally, T.J. Jann has made three appearances for the Nashua Silver Knights in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
Shortstop and Lewistown native Elliot Searer is playing in the Centre County League for the Lemont Ducks. Through eight games of action this year, Searer is hitting .303 with one homer and three RBI. Also joining Searer on the team are recent alums Sean Deegan and Joey DeBernardis.
