Video Interview: Brady Gehret

DES MOINES, Iowa: June 8, 2012 - Sophomore Brady Gehret (Altoona, Pa.) is now a three-time USTFCCCA All-American, after placing sixth in the 400-meter, Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium. Gehret isn't done, however, as the sophomore will be back to anchor the men's 4x400-meter relay, which is set to run in the NCAA Final, Saturday at 12:40 p.m.

Gehret held his own in the elite field, which saw three athletes dip under the 45-second barrier, placing sixth overall, thanks to a finishing time of 45.44. The performance is the second best open 400-meter effort of his career. The sophomore is just the second Nittany Lion to earn All-America honors in the event outdoors, and the first since Mike Sands placed fifth in the 440 yards in 1975.

Gehret has had quite the weekend already, having anchored the Nittany Lions' school-record and NCAA-leading 4x400-meter relay on Thursday night, which clocked a sizzling 3:01.52 in qualifying.

The sophomore is one of a trio of Nittany Lions to earn First Team All-American status this weekend, joining sophomore Laura Loht (McClure, Pa.) and freshman Lauren Kenney (State College, Pa.), who provided a three-four finish in the women's javelin on Wednesday.

The men's 4x400 - including Aaron Nadolsky (Altoona, Pa.), Brandon Bennett-Green (Elkins Park, Pa.), Casimir Loxsom (New Haven, Conn.), and Gehret - will represent Penn State in tomorrow's final, along with senior Joe Kovacs (Nazareth, Pa.), who is set to take on the NCAA shot put field, beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday.
