Schram Joins Hayes at U.S. U-20 Training Camp

July 17, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's soccer junior Taylor Schram (Canonsburg, Pa.) will join junior teammate Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) as an addition to the 24-player training camp for the U.S. U-20 National Team, which began on July 15. The Nittany Lion duo will be training in Bradenton, Fla. for the next two weeks, with camp closing down on July 30.

A total of 21 players will be selected to the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, which will be held in Japan from Aug. 19-Sept. 8.

Schram is coming off a stellar 2011 season, where she earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors. She tallied career-highs in goals (12), assists (12), points (36) and games started (24). Schram was just one of just six Nittany Lions in program history to tally double-digit goals and assists. In addition, she ranked second on team in goals, assists and points.

Penn State women's soccer has seen nine of its own train with various U.S. Women's National teams in the past two years. Last year, alums Katie Schoepfer and Alyssa Naeher worked out with the U-23 team in Carson, Calif. Former PSU All-American Joanna Lohman joined Naeher on the senior team that same month. Senior Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) also was tabbed for a U-23 callup. Ali Krieger, who started every game in the 2011 World Cup, is recovering from an ACL injury suffered during Olympic qualifying. In addition, juniors Bri Hovington (Lothian, Md.) and sophomore Kori Chapic (Novelty, Ohio) have earned invites to the U-20 team training in the past.
