University Park, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's soccer Collegiate Identification Camp wrapped up earlier this month. The sold-out event, held from July 14-17 on the Penn State campus, saw athletes from 25 states and 10 foreign countries in attendance.
"The residential I.D. camp was fantastic," Penn State head coach Bob Warming said. "With the players coming from 25 states and so many foreign countries, if felt more like a soccer festival than a camp."
Athletes from various countries in the Americas, including Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico and British Columbia, Canada, were represented, as well as European countries Spain, Denmark, Ireland, and Germany. Individuals from Morocco and Dubai made the trip to University Park, also, to receive training from 11 college coaches.
"The guest college coaches did a terrific job," Warming commented. "We all had a lot of fun and saw some very good young talent on campus."
The campers not only took advantage of an experienced group of college coaches, but also from the Penn State facilities.
"Most of the players said they had never played on a field as nice as the new lighted grass fields that were opened for soccer camp this year," Warming added. "It made training so great each day."
Penn State opens its season with an exhibition match at home against Hartwick Aug. 13. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.
