Ceresko Wins Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship

Aug. 17, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State junior golfer Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) captured the Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship on Friday afternoon. Ceresko missed the 2011 Penn State campaign with an injury.

Ceresko competed against talented players, including Rachel Rohanna (Ohio State University), who she defeated 2 and 1 in the match play tournament. She ended the tournament by defeating Kate Scarpetta (Princeton), winning after 21 holes to capture the title.

Ceresko had a tremendous freshman campaign, accumulating the second-best average on the team of players who participated in more than 20 rounds with a 78.3. She was named to the 2010-2011 NGCA All-American Scholar Team for Division I and was one of 576 women's collegiate golfers combined from Division I, II and III to earn the honor that requires a minimum GPA of 3.50.

Head coach Denise St. Pierre returns nine players from the 2011-12 season and welcomes the addition of freshman Grace Chung (Ontario, Canada).
