UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State senior linebacker Michael Mauti (Mandeville, La.) was voted the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3 "Ironman of the Game" for his week 2 performance against Virginia. Mauti received the most fan votes of the four nominees this week.
Mauti turned in a stellar performance on both defense and special teams. The fierce competitor recorded nine tackles, including five solo, and a pass break-up. He made several big plays, including forcing a fumble on Virginia's first offensive play. Later in the game, Mauti recovered a fourth quarter fumble, forced by defensive end Deion Barnes (Philadelphia, Pa.). Mauti led a Penn State defense that limited Virginia's offense to just 295 total yards.
Mauti joins sophomore wide receiver Allen Robinson (Southfield, Mich.) as this year's "Ironman of the Game." Robinson claimed the honor last week after his then career-high nine catch, 97-yard performance against Ohio.
