UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team unveiled the 2012-13 jerseys for its inaugural season at Beaver Stadium on Tuesday to assembled media and fans. Junior captain Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior defense Lindsay Reihl (Cheshire, Conn.) debuted the jerseys for the Nittany Lion women's hockey squad at the press conference.
"The jersey unveiling is another terrific step forward in the program-building process," Nittany Lion head coach Josh Brandwene said. "This first team of ours is an incredibly enthusiastic group and they are looking forward to wearing the Blue and White with pride."
Inspired by the classic design that is synonymous with Penn State, the home whites will feature the Nittany Lion logo in the center of the chest, with a navy stripe around the arms and near the bottom of the jersey. Names with navy letters will adorn the back of the jersey, while navy numbers will appear on the arms and back.
The navy jerseys also will feature the Penn State logo on the front and white numbers on the back and shoulders. The road blues will have white stripes on the arms and near the bottom of the jersey.
The women's jerseys have a white College Hockey America (CHA) patch adorning the left side of the jersey below the shoulder.
Fans can order jerseys at the Penn State Bookstore at the HUB-Robeson Center and All-Sports Museum, or by calling 814-863-0205. Replica jerseys will cost $75 (youth) and $80 (adult) and will be shipped early October. Authentic jerseys will cost $125 and will be delivered early November.
During the 2012-13 season, Penn State will compete in the CHA with Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Syracuse and fellow newcomers RIT and Lindenwood. The Nittany Lions open the inaugural campaign on Oct. 6 at Vermont for the first of a two-game set. Penn State returns to Happy Valley for its first varsity home game on Oct. 13 when it takes on Syracuse. Admission to all women's hockey games is free.
