Several Nittany Lions Head to Final Day with Championships in Sight

MIDLAND, Texas - Several Nittany Lions will continue on to the third day of the Midland Invitational after outlasting a long rain-filled second day. Petra Januskova will compete in the semifinals tomorrow in singles play as well as the semifinals along with Devan McCluskey in the doubles bracket. Carmen Sandor and Devan also look to continue their roll in the backdraw after both of their matches today.

Carmen Sandor started off the action for Penn State on Saturday defeating Sofya Malysheva of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-3. She will take on Nebraska's Janine Weinreich tomorrow morning in the semifinals. Devan McCluskey also won her second round match in the backdraw besting Ginda D'Ortona of the University of Texas at Arlington, 6-1, 6-1. Devan will next face Stefanie Weinstein from Nebraska in her semifinal tomorrow.

After a play was halted due to rain, Petra Januskova got things kicked off and stayed unbeaten in Midland after defeating Millie Nichols of TCU in the third round of the singles bracket, 6-3, 6-2. Petra's next challenge will be Anna Mamalat of Texas A&M, whom she faces tomorrow in the semifinals in hopes of moving on to the final and bringing home the singles championship.

Januskova and McCluskey also continued in doubles action today. They defeated Sofya Malysheva and Rashmi Teltumbde of Texas Tech, 8-4, in the second round of doubles action and will compete in the semifinals tomorrow.

Play continues from Midland tomorrow at 9 a.m. with semifinals and finals events taking place in all three competitions.
