UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The fourth-ranked Penn State women's volleyball team (11-1, 1-0 Big Ten) is back in action against conference foe Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 1-800-NITTANY and are $8 for adults and $5 for youth. Fans can also purchase tickets at the Rec Hall ticket office prior to the event. Students with a valid Penn State ID will be admitted for free.
Nittany Lion Preview
The Penn State women's volleyball team improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten after defeating No. 3 Nebraska, 3-1, on Sept. 19. Junior Ariel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Nittany Lions with 23 kills, while her classmate Deja McClendon (Louisville, Ky.) had 16. Sophomore Micha Hancock (Edmond, Okla.) dished out 55 assists and was third on the team in digs with 11. Sophomore Dominique Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) had a team-high 16 digs and McClendon added 13. Sophomore Nia Grant (Warren, Ohio) and McClendon led the squad in blocks with five apiece.
Against the Huskers, the Nittany Lions hit .315 and averaged 16.50 kills, 15.75 assists, 1.25 aces, 14.75 digs and 2.50 blocks per set.
Penn State vs. Iowa
The Nittany Lions are a perfect 42-0 against the Hawkeyes dating back to their first season in the conference, 1991. Last season, the Nittany Lions swept the Hawkeyes on the road on Sept. 24 before defeating Iowa, 3-1, in Rec Hall on Oct. 28.
Scouting the Hawkeyes
Iowa is 8-5 so far in 2012. The Hawkeyes closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule at the Marquette Invitational on Sept. 14-15 where they were 1-2. The Hawkeyes defeated Milwaukee, but lost to both Pacific and Marquette. Before traveling to Penn State, the Hawkeyes will visit Ohio State on Sept. 21.
