Women's Golf to Host Nittany Lion Invitational

Sept. 27, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- - The Penn State women's golf team is set to host the 37th Nittany Lion Invitational, which begins Friday, Sept. 28 at the Penn State Blue Course. The 6,229-yard, par-72 course will be a challenge to the 16 other visiting teams coming to play this weekend. The tournament is three rounds, lasting until Sunday, Sept. 30.

Eastern Michigan captured the 2011 Nittany Lion Invitational, beating Penn State by two strokes in the rain shortened 36-hole tournament. Penn State last won the Nittany Lion Invitational back in 2010, shooting a three round score of 901 to capture the win. Since the Invitational first began in 1974, Penn State has won 19 times, the most of any school. Penn State has also had three of the last six individual medalists.

Junior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) has led the Nittany Lions so far this season. She has played six rounds, shooting a three under par-72 at the Cougar Classic, earning her a tie for sixth place, and a three over par-72 at the Yale Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) is trying to continue her good golf after finishing ninth in the Yale Intercollegiate, just two strokes away from Vosters. Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) is looking to come back strong this weekend after suffering from an illness last weekend, forcing her to withdraw from her round on the final day.

Each team will have six players with the lowest four scores counting towards the team score.

The opening round will begin Friday, Sept. 28 with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. The second round will occur on Saturday, Sept. 29 with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. The final round is on Sunday, Sept. 30 with a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
