LOS ANGELES - Junior Chelsea Utting was knocked out of the singles draw on day one of the All-American Championships at UCLA.
In her first match of the pre-qualifying round, Utting was ousted by Florida's Olivia Janowicz, 6-2, 6-2. Janowicz moves on to face Julia Metzger of Oregon who defeated Purdue's Lynda Zepoleas in the second round of pre-qualifiers. The pre-qualifying rounds conclude tomorrow with the eight winners moving on to the qualifying rounds which begin on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Utting will be back in action along with Petra Januskova in the main draw of the doubles championship. The main draws begin on Thursday Oct. 4 with Januskova beginning her singles competition in addition to pairing with Utting in doubles action. Following the pre-qualifying rounds, the championships will move to the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
