Nittany Lions Dole Out 2012 Team Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's lacrosse team held its annual team banquet on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Nittany Lion Inn to recap the 2012 season. The Nittany Lions, who finished 9-6, also held their second annual Alumni, Friends & Family Weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Head coach Jeff Tambroni dished out five awards on Sunday. Departing seniors Matthew Mackrides, Ryan McGarvey and Ryan Link headlined the Nittany Lion honors.

Tambroni presented Mackrides with the Thiel Family Nittany Lion Lacrosse Award, which honors a member of the team, whose actions, investments and selfless contributions as synonymous with the mantra "Success with Honor" and sets the standard of "The Penn State Lacrosse Way."

McGarvey earned the Hard Hat Award as the member whose persistence, work ethic and courage set a "blue collar" standard for the program. Link was named the George Pittenger Award winner as the member of a senior class who led selflessly while inspiring his classmates and teammates through his actions.

Current senior Kyle VanThof (Penfield, N.Y.) earned the Citizenship Award for demonstrating the best qualities of character, classroom and community service. The Friends of Penn State Lacrosse Award was presented to academic team advisor Jim Weaver for going above and beyond in supporting the men's lacrosse program and its student-athletes.

The Nittany Lions also held a golf outing on Saturday at Toftrees Resort. A video of the outing can be viewed below.
