LAS VEGAS, Nev. Oct. 21, 2012- The Penn State women's golf team shot a combined score of 300, leaving them at 12 over par-72 on day one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Nittany Lions finished in a tie for fourth place in a very tough field. Penn State is eight shots behind co-leaders Wisconsin and Indiana.
Junior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) continued her impressive play this season by posting a round one score of 73, one over par-72. Vosters is in a tie for seventh place in a very challenging field of golfers where there are 40 golfers that shot five over par or under. Vosters is three shots behind the leader Elizabeth Tong. Vosters' teammate, sophomore Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) also continued to play great golf this fall season, carding a day one score of 74, leaving her at two over par and in a tie for 13th place.
Big Ten schools Wisconsin and Indiana jumped out to an early lead, both posting scores of 292, equaling four over par. They have a seven shot lead over fellow Big Ten foe Minnesota. Every Big Ten school in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown finished in the top four after the first round. Elizabeth Tong of Indiana University is leading the individual portion of the tournament, posting a round one total of 70, two under par. She has a one shot lead over Ally McDonald of Mississippi State.
Day two of the tournament is Monday, Oct. 22 with tee times beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day. Live scoring can be followed on www.golfstat.com
