Yoxheimer Grabs CHA Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey freshman standout Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) was named College Hockey America's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Yoxheimer tallied a goal in each game at Sacred Heart and added an assist at the Nittany Lions went 1-1, out-scoring the Pioneers 7-3.

Yoxheimer scored Penn State's lone goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to SHU, but backed it up with a great performance on Saturday. She was one of six Nittany Lions to score in a 6-1 rout of the Pioneers, tallying the game-winning goal and an assist on the first goal of the game.

Yoxheimer leads the team in goals (4) and tied for first in points (5). Along with Syracuse's Laura Kingsbury, Yoxheimer led the CHA in scoring over the weekend with three points behind two goals and an assist. Kingsbury was tabbed CHA Rookie of the Week. Mercyhurst's Christine Bestland had three assists in Sunday's win over Clarkson as well.

Yoxheimer is the second freshman to be honored by the CHA. On Oct. 8, Micayla Catanzariti (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was tabbed Rookie of the Week. Junior goaltender Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) was nominated for CHA's Goaltender of the Week after a 1-1-0 record at SHU.

Penn State (2-4-0, 0-2-0 CHA) hosts fellow CHA newcomer RIT for a two-game series starting Thursday at 7 p.m. Friday's finale is set for a 7:30 p.m. opening face-off at Greenberg Ice Pavilion. RIT enters Thursday's game with a 3-3-0 overall record and 0-2-0 in the CHA.
