BLACKSBURG, Va. - Top-seeded Petra Januskova defeated the second seed Li Xi of Virginia in straight sets to take home the singles championship on the final day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
For the second time in three years Januskova made her way to the final of the singles draw in the ITA Atlantic Regionals. She lost to Michaela Kissel of Marshall, 7-5, 6-0, her first time there during the fall of her sophomore year.
After losing at tough match in the quarterfinals last year, Januskova left her final ITA Regional Tournament a champion. Januskova, ranked No. 52 in the preseason singles poll, bested the No. 77 ranked Li Xi 6-2, 6-2.
The match was another two-set victory for Januskova, which has been quite common this fall, particularly this tournament. In her six singles matches here, only the quarterfinal against Maci Epstein went into three sets.
Januskova now has 11 wins this fall, two behind her career high 13 which she achieved each of the last two fall seasons.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action in two weeks beginning Nov. 8 and 9. Januskova will compete in the National Indoor Invitational in Flushing, N.Y., while the rest of the team heads to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the WMU Super Challenge.
