UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey dropped a 4-1 decision to RIT, 4-1, on Thursday night at Greenberg Ice Pavilion. Freshman Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) scored a power-play goal, her team-leading fifth tally of the season, as RIT won its first College Hockey America contest.

RIT (4-3-0, 1-2-0 CHA) went 2-for-8 on the power play and added a short-handed goal. Katie Hubert tallied two goals, while Erin Zach had a goal and an assist. Penn State's Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) made 34 saves in the loss.

Huburt put the Tigers on the board early with an unassisted tally from the left wing. Hubert collected a loose puck at mid ice, beat the Penn State defense and found the net to the lower right for her second goal of the season.

The Tigers dominated much of the offensive play in the first period, but a series of minor penalties derailed the RIT attack. Yoxheimer converted a perfect pass from Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to knot the score at one with 1:06 remaining in the period. Paige Jahnke (Oakdale, Minn.) set up the play from the point on the 4-on-3 power play, sent it to Gross on the left wing, who slid it over to Yoxheimer on the right as the lefty beat RIT's Ali Binnington (12 saves) top shelf.

Penn State (2-5-0, 0-3-0 CHA) looked to keep the momentum going in the second as it started on another power play and held possession for much of the early portion of the period. RIT's stifling defense took over and would convert on a power-play chance of its own as Hubert tallied her second of the game with seven minutes remaining.

Penn State went on the power play five minutes later, but an errant pass through the neutral zone was picked off by Erin Zach as she scored the short-handed goal for a 3-1 lead. RIT out-shot Penn State 9-3 in the second period.

In the third, it was more of the same for RIT, out-shooting Penn State 18-5, six of the Tiger shots coming on five different power plays. Tenecia Hiller salted the game away with her first goal of the year for the final 4-1 score line.

RIT won the faceoff battle, 31-24 as Zach went 13-2 and Schlattman went 12-8. For Penn State, Jess Desorcie (Westford, Vt.) was 6-3 and Yoxheimer went 5-4. RIT held a 38-13 shot advantage and both teams committed eight penalties.

The Nittany Lions and Tigers return to Greenberg Pavilion on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown. The game will be streamed live on AmericaOneSports.com with live stats on GoPSUsports.com GameTracker. Admission to the game is free.
