Penn State Fencing Set to Host 41st Annual Garret Open

Oct. 30, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Fencing Team will host the 41st annual Garret Penn State Open on Saturday and Sunday Nov. 3-4. Action will take place in the White Building, and is set to begin at 8 a.m. both days.

The event will bring together nine schools from all over the United States, and give the Nittany Lions a chance to compete against some of the country's most elite fencers. Schools set to compete include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Temple, Notre Dame, and Cornell.

Penn State is led this year by captains Adrian Bak and Jessica Russo. Bak (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) is a two-time All-American, and Russo (Wayne, N.J.) is coming off a second place finish in women's saber this past weekend at the Temple Open.

The Lions are coming off of a solid 2011-2012 season in which they saw a fifth place finish at the NCAA National Championships. Head Coach Emmanuil Kaidanov's team is in search of their 13th National Title this year, which would be the third in five years (2009, 2010).

Results from this weekend's event will be posted on goPSUsports.com at the conclusion of each day's action.
