Petra Januskova moves on in the singles competition after a big win in the first round of main draws. Januskova and Chelsea Utting advanced to the second round of main draws at the All-American Championships hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club before being eliminated in the next round.

Januskova and Utting began the day knocking off TCU's duo of Olivia Smith and Millie Nichols in the first round of doubles matches. Januskova and Utting bested the No. 16 ranked duo in the nation in exciting fashion, winning 8-6. This was the first time Utting and Januskova played together this fall. Last year the pair had a team-leading 12-5 record in doubles matches.

This was the second time Januskova and TCU's Nichols faced off on the court this fall. Last time out, Januskova topped Nichols, 6-3, 6-2, in singles play at the Racquet Club of Midland Invitational.

Januskova used the momentum from the big doubles win earlier in the day to oust Texas' Aeriel Ellis in the opening round of the singles main draw. Januskova didn't allow Ellis, who is ranked No. 20 in the ITA preseason polls, to win a set, winning 6-2, 6-4.

"Petra fought through a tough match and played to win when the pressure was on today," coach Dawna Denny said afterwards.

In their second doubles match of the day, Januskova and Utting were ousted by their conference foes from Michigan. The team of Emina Bektas and Brooke Bolender from Michigan, ranked No. 5 in the nation, topped the Nittany Lions, 8-1. This was the second time Utting squared off against this Michigan pair. Last year she teamed with Fernanda Perrotta in a match they lost 8-1 in.

Januskova will be back in action tomorrow when she takes on Lauren Embree of the defending national champion Florida Gators at 1:45 p.m. ET. Embree is ranked No. 6 in the preseason singles poll.
