UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey freshman Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) extended her scoring streak to seven goals in a 7-1 loss to Robert Morris on Saturday at Greenberg Ice Pavilion. RMU's Rebecca Vint tallied a school record-tying five goals on the afternoon.
After a strong opening 10 minutes of the first period, Robert Morris (4-2-1, 1-0-0) got on the board when Vint was fed by linemates Kelsey Thomas and Cobina Delaney on a goal off a rebound. A little over two minutes later, Vint would double her total on the power play as Jamie Joslin and Brandi Pollock tallied assists.
Just 95 seconds later, Robert Morris made it 3-0 when Kyle St. Louis took a Penn State turnover for an unassisted goal. Vint capped the hat trick 22 seconds later as Thomas and Delaney again provided assists for a 4-0 lead. Robert Morris out-shot Penn State 14-6 in the opening period.
The story was much the same in the second period as PSU held its own for the opening eight minutes before Thea Imbrogno scored her second goal of the year for a 5-0 advantage.
Penn State (4-6-1, 0-4-1 CHA) fired back with four minutes remaining in the period when Yoxheimer's rocket found the back of the net past Kristen DiCiocco (11 saves). Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the faceoff to a waiting Yoxheimer before the freshman standout scored her 10th goal of the season. Yoxheimer has scored in every game since Oct. 19 at Sacred Heart, tallying eight goals in that span.
Vint would add a fourth goal two minutes later from Imbrogno and Thomas on the 5-on-3 power play before the period was through for a 6-1 score.
Vint made it 7-1 with four minutes remaining as Thomas recorded her fourth assist of the game. Delaney had three tallies on the afternoon.
Robert Morris held a 43-15 shot advantage and a commanding 40-14 margin in faceoffs. Yoxheimer and Gross led the team with three shots apiece while Kendra Rasmussen (Sartell, Minn.) and Tess Weaver (Windber, Pa.) had two shots apiece. Jordin Pardoski (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Madison Smiddy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) were even in the plus/minus category and blocked three shots each.
Goaltender Nicole Paniccia stopped 36 shots, including 13 each in the second and third periods. Paniccia has eclipsed the 30-save mark in five games this season as she fell to 4-4-1 on the season.
