KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Final WMU Super Challenge Results

Freshman Devan McCluskey capped off her first fall season with the Nittany Lions by taking home the back draw crown in her flight at the WMU Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club.

McCluskey defeated her opponent Aina Hernandez of Marquette with little trouble winning, 6-1, 6-3. The win gives McCluskey 14 for the fall which is more than any Nittany Lion freshman has won in over seven years. She is second on the team this fall, trailing only Petra Januskova who won 17 matches this fall.

Sarah Henderson had a championship match of her own, but retired from action in the first set due to injury with the score at 5-2 in favor of her opponent Mary Hill of Bowling Green.

Chelsea Utting and Jacqueline Zuhse were both taking on opponents in third-place matches during the day. Utting took on Erin Gebes of Marquette in the consolation side of her bracket but was unable to get the win against her former school. She won the first set but wasn't able to hang on despite the great effort and was topped 5-7, 6-4, 1-0(5).

Zuhse competed in the third-place main draw of her flight against Marquette's Rocio Diaz. Zuhse won the first set of her match also, but couldn't quite knock off Diaz and was bested 6-7(2), 6-2, 1-0(4).

Lisa Petruzillo lost a tough match to Notre Dame's Darby Mountford 6-0, 6-0 in a third-place consolation match. Emily Rivers battled Valentina Schneider of Lousiville but couldn't come out victorious, losing 6-1, 6-0, in her third-place consolation match.

The Lions will have some time off from matches and will prepare for the spring season. They begin their spring campaign in Akron, Ohio against Middle Tennessee State University on January 19.
