UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore setter Micha Hancock (Edmond, Okla.) of the second-ranked Penn State women's volleyball team (23-2, 13-1 Big Ten) was named the AVCA National Player of the Week, AVCA officials announced Tuesday. This is Hancock's first national weekly honor and the ninth for a Nittany Lion.
Hancock guided Penn State to wins against then No. 10 Minnesota on Nov. 2 and Wisconsin on Nov. 4. She paced the Nittany Lion offense to a .247 hitting percentage and was also strong on defense with double-digit digs in both matches.
Against the Gophers, Hancock tallied 46 assists, 15 digs and tied her career-high with seven aces. She followed that performance with 40 assists, 11 digs and two aces against the Badgers, and helped the Nittany Lions to a .306 hitting percentage. For the week, Hancock totaled 86 assists, averaging 12.29 assists per set, nine aces (1.29 aces per set), and was second on the team in digs with 26 (3.71 digs per set).
Penn State is back in action on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. against Illinois at home in Rec Hall. The match will air live on the Big Ten Network. The Nittany Lions remain at home to face Northwestern on Saturday, Nov. 10. The match has been changed to an 8 p.m. start.
