UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The #11/10 Penn State Lady Lions (7-2) close out the road portion of their non-conference schedule with a trip to Virginia Tech (4-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. This game closes out the home-and-home series with the Hokies. The Lady Lions picked up the 66-28 win last season. The game is on the Penn State Sports Network and ESPN Radio 1450 locally with Jerry Fisher calling the action. LAST TIME OUT: Junior guard Maggie Lucas scored 26 of her career-high 39 points in the first half to give the Lady Lions a 97-74 victory over Georgetown Sunday. The 39 points for Lucas is a single-game record in the BJC for a men's or women's game and is tied for the third-most points in a game by a Penn State player overall (Angie Potthoff vs. Indiana, 1/10/97). Senior point guard Alex Bentley had one of her best outings of the 2012-13 campaign, tallying a season-best 23 points. Junior Ariel Edwards tallied 11 points of 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while senior Nikki Greene grabbed 13 rebounds.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH: The Hokies are 4-3 on the season and have won three of their last four outings. Monet Tellier paces the Virginia Tech offense, averaging 12.1 points to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per outing. Alyssa Fenyn is second on the team in scoring at an 8.9 per game rate, while dishing out a team-high 4.3 assist per game. The Hokies are solid defensively, allowing just 53.1 points per game.
ALL-TIME VS. THE HOKIES: The Lady Lions have won both matchups against Virginia Tech. The teams first met in the 2004 NCAA Tournament where the Lions earned a 61-48 win in Blacksburg. The squads squared off again last season as the start of a home-and-home series with Penn State picking up the 66-28 win.
LAST TIME VERSUS VT: The Lady Lions held Virginia Tech scoreless for the final 13 minutes of the game to secure a convincing 66-28 win on Dec. 6, 2011. After scoring seven of her 11 points in the first half, Alex Bentley became the 33rd Lady Lion to reach 1,000 career points. Maggie Lucas posted a game-high 20 points while also posting a team-best eight rebounds and two assists. Nikki Greene added 14 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Bentley chipped in 11 points, five assists and three steals.
ANOTHER POW AWARD FOR MAGS: Junior guard Maggie Lucas picked up her second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the season after averaging 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of games for the Lady Lions last week. Lucas shared the award for the week-ending Dec. 9 with Minnesota's Rachel Banham. Lucas is the first Lady Lion to garner multiple Player of the Week awards in a season since Amanda Brown won two weekly honors in the 2006-07 campaign.
RECORD BREAKER IN THE BJC: Junior guard Maggie Lucas was 11-for-21 from the field and 7-for-13 from three-point range en route to a career-high 39 points in the win over Georgetown Dec. 9. Her 39 tallies broke the Bryce Jordan Center record for points in a game (men's or women's), surpassing the previous mark of 38 points, set by Kelly Mazzante twice. Lucas is the first Lady Lion to break the 35-point mark since Kelly Mazzante had 35 against Wisconsin on March 2, 2003. Additionally, Lucas tied the women's BJC record for three-pointers in a game with seven triples, equaling the mark she set against Michigan State (1/7/12) and also held by Adrienne Squire, Kelly Mazzante and Iowa's Kamille Wahlin. Lucas was also stellar on the defensive end against the Hoyas, recording a career-high six steals.
GREENE PULLS IN #800: With 13 rebounds in the win over Georgetown Dec. 9, senior center Nikki Greene reached the 800-rebound mark for her career. She is the ninth player in school history to snag 800 caroms and is the first player to join the 800-rebound club since Amanda Brown in the 2006-07 season.
NON-CON HOME WINNING STREAK: The Lady Lions have won their last 11 non-conference home games, dating back to the 2010-11 season. The streak is tied for the fourth-longest non-conference home court winning streak in school history. Penn State last lost a home non-conference game against Drexel on Dec. 21, 2010.

The 2013 Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24 as the Lady Lions take on Michigan in the Bryce Jordan Center. Last year, the Lady Lions donated a record $203,000 to breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C.
