UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State Lady Lion senior center Nikki Greene (Diboll, Texas) was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the week-ending Jan. 21. It is the first career Player of the Week award for Greene and it is the third Player of the Week honor for the Lady Lions this season (Maggie Lucas, twice). Previously, Greene earned conference accolades as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14, 2009.

Greene averaged 15.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and shot 59.1% from the field as the Lady Lions climbed to 5-0 in conference play with wins over Wisconsin and #23/RV Michigan last week. The Lady Lions are the lone unbeaten in Big Ten play (men or women) and are riding a nine-game winning streak heading into Thursday's game against Minnesota at the BJC.

In Thursday's dominating victory, Greene posted her third double-double of the season and 12th of her career with 23 points and 14 rebounds. The 23 markers are a season high for Greene and account for her fifth career 20-point performance. Greene was 9-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from the charity stripe against UW. With a pair of rejections against the Badgers, Greene moved into second place on Penn State's career blocks chart.

Greene continued her strong play in Monday's 10-point win at previously unbeaten Michigan, she narrowly missed out on a double-double with eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in just 18 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Greene was 4-for-6 from the field against the Wolverines. Heading into Thursday's Minnesota game, Greene needs five points for 1,000 in her career.
