UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey opened the record book and rewrote it on Friday night at Greenberg Ice Pavilion in a 10-0 romp over Chatham. Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) scored the first two goals of the game and Hannah Hoenshell tallied a school-record four points as Penn State eased by the Division III Cougars.

Penn State set new records for most goals in a game (10), most goals in a period (5, in the first) and most assists in a game (17). Hoenshell tallied a two-goal, two-assist effort, while Jeanette Bateman (Greeley, Colo.) became the first Nittany Lion to register three assists. Jordin Pardoski (Rochester Hills, Mich.) added a three-point game of her own behind a goal and two assists to celebrate her 19th birthday.

The game also featured a couple of firsts as Tess Weaver (Windber, Pa.) scored her first varsity goal at the end of the first period and freshman Darby Kern (Venetia, Pa.) notched her first point on an assist in the first period. In all, 15 Nittany Lions earned a point.

The goaltending trio of Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.), Celine Whitlinger (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Brooke Meyer (Naperville, Ill.) combined for Penn State's second shutout of the year. Paniccia and Meyer made six stops, while Whitlinger saved five.

It took 8:39 for Penn State (6-12-0) to get on the board as Yoxheimer buried a power play goal past Chatham goaltender Megan Buchanan (26 saves). Jordin Pardoski (Rochester Hills, Mich.) swung a pass from the right wing over to Jess Desorcie (Westford, Vt.) to the left wing before Desorcie sent a pass down to the lefty sharpshooter for the opening goal.

Yoxheimer doubled her ledger four minutes later on feeds from Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Desorcie. Hoenshell made it 3-0 just 26 seconds later on assists from Bateman and Paige Jahnke (Oakdale, Minn.) at 12:46.

Sixty-two seconds after the third goal, Kendra Rasmussen (Sartell, Minn.) added a fourth from Kern and Weaver, who posted her first multi-point game of her varsity career when she scored at 17:06 from Pardoski for a five-goal advantage.

Just 21 seconds into the second period, Jill Holdcroft (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.) made it 6-0 on an unassisted tally, collecting a loose puck along the boards and beating Buchanan glove side. Pardoski edged the lead to seven on a shot from the point, which was helped by Holdcroft and Hoenshell.

Rasmussen tallied her first two-goal game of her young career when she scored 14:35 into the period. Rasmussen's marker was aided by Micayla Catanzariti (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Bateman.

Hoenshell's second goal of the game came two minutes later from Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Bateman as the Nittany Lions held a commanding 9-0 lead after two periods. PSU's accuracy was potent, converting nine shots in the period into four goals.

The third period saw just one Penn State goal as Jenna Welch (Austin, Texas) capped the scoring as she knocked home a rebound with assists going to Emily Laurenzi (Townsend, Del.) and Holdcroft.

All 18 Nittany Lion skaters posted a positive rating with Sarah Wilkie (Ashby, Mass.) earning a plus-4 along with Pardoski and Hoenshell. Lindsay Reihl (Cheshire, Conn.) notched a plus-3 as well.

Penn State out-shot Chatham (1-8-0) 48-17 for the game including 26-6 in the first period. Yoxheimer took the most shots, 10, all in the first period. Catanzariti fired seven, while Birdie Shaw (Troy, Mich.) and Hoenshell each sent five shots on frame.

The Nittany Lions dominated the face-off circle going 45-10. Holdcroft was 15-3, Laurenzi 14-2 and Rasmussen 12-3. Each team committed two penalties as Penn State went 1-for-2 on the power play.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at Greenberg Ice Pavilion as the puck drops at 7 p.m.
