UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's gymnastics senior Madison Merriam (Gaithersburg, Md.) has been named Big Ten Co-Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Merriam played a pivotal role in helping the Nittany Lions set their best score of 196.700 since the 2011 season. Additionally, Penn State's mark on Saturday at Michigan is the second-best finish in a road meet in program history.
Merriam a career high on the vault (9.950) en route to the event title in Penn State's meet against No. 3 Michigan last weekend. Additionally, the senior tied for third in the floor exercise (9.900) and placed seventh on the bars (9.825). Merriam earns the first weekly Big Ten award of her career.
The Lions return to Rec Hall this Saturday at 7 p.m. for a double dual with Michigan State. All tickets can be purchased by calling Penn State Athletics at 1-800-NITTANY, visiting the Athletic Ticket Office in the Bryce Jordan Center, or at the Rec Hall ticket stand on meet day.
