UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 2, 2013 -- It was nearly an identical outing for the No. 24 women's swimming and diving program, as the Nittany Lions claimed 14 of 16 individual events vs. Towson on Senior Day at the McCoy Natatorium to win, 186-109. The program honored their five seniors; Ann Ragan Kearns, Merritt Krawczyk, Amy Lewis, Amy Modglin and Paige Whitmire, in a ceremony prior to the meet.

The seniors were on showcase from the pre-meet ceremony through the final event, with Merritt Krawczyk, Amy Modglin and Paige Whitmire all claiming individual victories, while Whitmire was a part of both relay victories and Krawczyk teamed up with a quartet to open the meet with a victory.

Modglin was the first senior to claim an individual crown when she topped the field in the 100 backstroke in a time of 56.14. She bested the field by over two-tenths of a second to win the event for the first time this season. Whitmire followed later with a victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 56.17, which was her first win of the season in the event, which was one one-hundredth of a second in front of teammate Carolyn Fittin. Krawczyk used a strong breaststroke to distance herself from the field in the 200 IM and claim her second title of the season in the event with a time of 2:04.17.

Chelsea Weedman claimed the only title of the afternoon for the junior class when she topped the field in the 100 breaststroke. She was a part of another close race with teammate Melissa Rodriguez, as the duo touched in 1:04.23 and 1:04.24, respectively to hold the top two spots in the event.

Freshman Katie Rowe pulled in two individual victories against the Tigers, winning the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. She topped the field in the 200 fly with a near-personal best of 2:02.80 and later topped the field in the 200 back with a mark of 2:03.91. It was the second career victory in each event for the rookie, who claimed the same events in the home opener against Villanova.

It was a nice day all around for the underclassmen, as freshman Alyson Ackman and Rodriguez also claimed wins and sophomores Carolyn Fittin, Meredith Harbison, Caitlyn Karr and Megan Siverling were all among the event victors vs. Towson.
