Tewaaraton Award Watch List

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore midfielder Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) has been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the foundation announced Friday. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female U.S. lacrosse player across all three NCAA divisions.

An Inside Lacrosse Second Team Preseason All-American, Coffey was the nation's only freshman in 2012 to earn IWLCA All-America honors when she landed on the organization's third team. The Toms River, N.J., native, who also earned Second Team All-ALC recognition after an outstanding freshman campaign, tied for second on the team in goals with 34, ranked third in points (40) and led the Nittany Lions in draw controls (53) and caused turnovers (18).

In Penn State's season-opening victory against Bucknell Feb. 20, Coffey recorded two points (1g, 1a), while also collecting four draw controls, a ground ball and one caused turnover.

The Tewaaraton Award is presented by the University Club of the City of Washington D.C. The selection committees are made of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to the men's and women's watch lists as the season progresses.

The lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and women's finalists will be announced and invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.

The No. 9/10 Nittany Lions will return to action Saturday, Feb. 23 when they visit No. 6/10 Loyola at 11 a.m.
