UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 10/11 Penn State women's lacrosse team will return to action Wednesday evening when they take the field against Duquesne at Rooney Field at 7 p.m.
The Nittany Lions (1-1) are in the midst of their season-long three-game road trip and will visit the Dukes (2-0) following a 13-11 setback to then-No. 6/10 Loyola Feb. 23. Penn State took a 7-6 lead into halftime but the Greyhounds responded with four straight tallies before holding the lead late in the game.
Freshman Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) and sophomore Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) recorded three points each (2g, 1a), while sophomore Kelly Lechner (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Ally Heavens (Garnet Valley, Pa.) added a pair of goals.
Junior attack Mackenzie Cyr (Westminster, Md.), who leads the Nittany Lions with 10 points (4g, 6a), extended her point-scoring streak to nine games with three assists. Sophomore midfielder Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) led all Nittany Lions with five draw controls, while freshman goalkeeper Emi Smith (Denver, Colo.) made seven saves.
Duquesne will enter the mid-week game following an 11-7 victory against first-year program Marquette Feb. 23. Caitlin Prince and Lib Lowry each recorded hat tricks for the Dukes, while Amanda Kidder and Laura Aeschbacher added pair of goals each. Kristen Gregory recorded six stops.
In their first-ever meeting last season, Penn State topped Duquesne, 16-5, at Holuba Hall Feb. 22. Five different Nittany Lions recorded multi-point games in the contest, which included a career-high five goals from attack Molly Fernandez (Baltimore, Md.). McCormick totaled five points (2g, 3a) while Lechner added two goals and two assists.
Following Wednesday night's game, Penn State will travel to No. 6/8 Virginia Sunday, March 3 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
