UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.; APRIL 10, 2013 - Penn State sophomore forward Patrick Ackerman (Rutland, Mass.) and freshman guard Akosa Maduegbunam (Boston, Mass.) have been granted a release to transfer from the Nittany Lion basketball program. Both players will complete the spring semester at the University.
"As I do every year, I talked with each of our players at the end of the season to evaluate where they are and to set a course for success in their future," Penn State coach Patrick Chambers said. "Patrick and Akosa have decided to seek opportunities elsewhere. First and foremost, we want what is best for our student-athletes. We thank Patrick and Akosa for their contribution to our program, wish them the very best, and will try to assist them in anyway we can."
Ackerman played in 13 games in 2012-13 and 25 total in two seasons at Penn State. He scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds last season while playing 4.4 minutes per game.
Maduegbunam made 14 appearances in his first season at Penn State posting six points and grabbing eight rebounds on the year while logging 3.8 minutes per contest.
