UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the third time this season, freshman midfielder Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) of the No. 6 Penn State women's lacrosse team has been tabbed the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.
A Fallston, Md., native, Mosketti tied for the team lead with four caused turnovers, while also collecting three goals, four draw controls and four ground balls, in a pair of Nittany Lion victories. In Penn State's 16-3 triumph against Lehigh April 10, the freshman, who also earned ALC Rookie of the Week honors March 19 and April 9, recorded one goal along with a pair of draw controls and caused turnovers.
In the Nittany Lions' 14-12 win against Ohio State, Mosketti collected a game-high four ground balls and added two goals, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. With the win, Penn State improved to 3-1 in ALC play for the first time since 2006.
In 2013, Mosketti has started all 13 games for the Nittany Lions (9-4, 3-1 ALC) and ranks second on the team in ground balls (24) and caused turnovers (17), third in draw controls (24) and fourth in points (22) and goals (19). The midfielder leads all conference freshmen in caused turnovers per game (1.31) and ground balls per game (1.85), while ranking second with 1.85 draw controls per game.
The Nittany Lions will return to action Wednesday, April 17 when they host Lafayette in their regular-season home finale at 7 p.m. Following its matchup with the Leopards, Penn State will face Johns Hopkins Sunday, April 21 in its final conference game of the season. The Nittany Lions' matchup against the Blue Jays will broadcast live on ESPNU at noon.
