Mosketti, Shea Earn ALC Weekly Honors

April 2, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After helping the No. 7 Penn State women's lacrosse team to an upset victory against then-No. 2 Florida, freshman midfielder Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) and senior defender Colleen Shea (Baltimore, Md.) have been named ALC Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced.

Mosketti, who earned rookie of the week honors for the second time, continued to shine in her debut season as the Nittany Lions downed No. 2 Florida, 16-11, Saturday afternoon. The Fallston, Md., native collected two second-half markers, including the game-winning tally, as Penn State snapped the Gators' 24-game regular-season win streak. The midfielder also corralled a game-high four draw controls, while recording one ground ball and one caused turnover.

In 2013, Mosketti, who has started all 10 games, has been one of the Nittany Lions' most balanced players. The freshman ranks second on the team in ground balls (18) and caused turnovers (12), fourth in draw controls (17) and fifth in points (19) and goals (16).

Earning her first ALC weekly award, Shea helped anchor a Penn State defensive unit that surrendered just two second-half goals to the nation's sixth-ranked offense. The senior defender recorded a team-high two caused turnovers as Penn State improved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2005.

For the season, Shea has started all 10 games and has registered seven caused turnovers, six ground balls and four draw controls.

Penn State (7-3, 2-0 ALC) will return to action Friday, April 5 when it faces league foe No. 3 Northwestern (9-1, 3-0 ALC) at 8 p.m.
