UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team finished third in the Pinehurst Challenge showing they can bounce back from a tough Briar's Creek Invitational. The Nittany Lions shot a third round 301 to finish the tournament with 904 strokes (300, 303, 301).

The Nittany Lions had a three way tie for the team lead as junior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.), and sophomores Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec) and Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) all tied for eighth place at 9 over par-72. All three Nittany Lions were very consistent throughout the tournament finishing up with 225 strokes. Elliott, Vosters, and fellow junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) tied for the lowest round on the team with a 73.

Coach Denise St. Pierre was pleased with the consistency her team showed as she said, "We were more consistent with our rounds. We need to be surer of our own game and shot making ability."

The University of Richmond swept the tournament winning both the team and the individual portions. Richmond finished the tournament with 899 strokes, four strokes ahead of second place College of Charleston. Caroline Lovette of Richmond won the individual portion recording a 219 to equal three strokes over par-72. She finished two strokes ahead of second place Harin Lee of St. John's.

The Penn State women's golf team is back in action on Saturday, April 20 as the Nittany Lions head to Columbus, Ohio for the Lady Buckeye. The tournament concludes on Sunday, April 21.
