Penn State Clinches 29th EIVA Title

April 8, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 12th-ranked Penn State men's volleyball team (18-6) clinched its 29th EIVA/ECVL Championship title. Penn State will host the 2013 EIVA Tournament as the No. 1 seed on April 25 and 27.

Penn State had earned at least a share of the EIVA title after defeating Princeton and George Mason on March 29-30 to improve to 11-1 in the league. An outright claim on the title would require another EIVA win by the Nittany Lions or a Harvard loss. George Mason dealt Harvard a 3-1 loss on Saturday, April 6 to give Penn State its 29th conference crown since 1976. This is the 18th time under head coach Mark Pavlik that the Nittany Lions have won the regular season title.

The Nittany Lions look to win their 25th EIVA Championship on April 25 and 27 when they host the EIVA Semifinals and Championship at Rec Hall. Joining Penn State in the tournament are George Mason, Princeton and Harvard. The winner of the EIVA Championship earns an automatic berth in the 2013 NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Tournament at UCLA on May 2 and 4.

Penn State heads to Irvine, Calif. on April 12-13 to challenge Concordia and UC Irvine. Following their trip out west, the Nittany Lions host EIVA foes Rutgers-Newark and NJIT on April 19-20. Both matches are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. starts in the South Gym of Rec Hall.
