Talbert Honored with Big Ten Sportsmanship Award

May 30, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising junior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) was named the Penn State men's golf Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree Thursday afternoon.

Talbert has been a top performer for the Nittany Lions since his rookie season in 2011-12. With 24 rounds of play in nine different tournaments during his sophomore campaign, Talbert shot a career low round of 69 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. His best overall finish on the year was at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, where he marked a 216 three-round total and placed tied-for-eighth.

Also included in Talbert's accolades this season is a place on the Division I PING All-Northeast Regional team.

Head coach Greg Nye has taken notice in the way Talbert presents himself on the course. The positive attitude and respectable character that Talbert possesses is easy to see on the field of play.

"Jens [Talbert] is the consummate gentleman as he competes," said Nye. "He had his ups and downs but his demeanor towards his fellow competitors never waivers."
