UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's golfer Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) advanced through the US Open local qualifying and will join former Nittany Lions Kevin Foley and T.J. Howe in competing for a spot in the 2013 US Open at the Merion Golf Club.
The US Open sectional qualifying of 36 holes will take place Monday, June 3rd. Houston will compete at the Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., while Penn State golf alums Howe and Foley will take to the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
Houston qualified with a score of 72, finishing fourth in a field of 72 at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardstown, Mass.
The Merion Golf Club, located in Ardmore, Pa., will welcome the 2013 US Open June 13-16 for the first time in 32 years. Merion has hosted more national championships than any other American site, but its small-town feel will present a challenge to the enormity of the United States Open.
