McDonald-Smith Qualifies for US Amateur Public Links Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State rising junior men's golfer Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) qualified for the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Lorton, Va. to be held July 15-20.

McDonald-Smith finished first at the Penn State Blue Course on June 20, shooting a 73 and a 72, respectively, to tally a 145 total.

The United States Golf Association selected the Laurel Hill Golf Club to host this year's U.S. Amateur Public Links. The course will welcome a 156-player field and two days of stroke play, where only the top 64 will advance. Those top finishers will continue into match play. The championship match will be 36 holes of competition.
