July 26, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising sophomore men's golfer JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, set for Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

Dornes posted a 138 two-round total to win his qualifying site at the Lebanon Country Club in Lebanon, Pa. on June 22.

The Brookline, Mass. course is one of the five original clubs of the USGA, founded in 1882. The Country Club is also home to Francis Ouimet's thrilling 1913 U.S. Open victory, where he upset two British professionals in an 18-hole playoff.

The U.S. Amateur Championship began in 1895 and is the oldest golf championship in this country.
