UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising sophomore Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) will join teammate JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) in the U.S. Amateur Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

Houston earned his championship berth in eventful fashion, edging Herbie Aikens in a three-hole playoff at the Cape Cod National Golf Course. Houston shot a 74 and 70 for a 144 total, winning the playoff by the light of parked cars in the darkness with three straight pars.

The Brookline, Mass. course is one of the five original clubs of the USGA, founded in 1882. The Country Club is also home to Francis Ouimet's thrilling 1913 U.S. Open victory, where he upset two British professionals in an 18-hole playoff.

The U.S. Amateur Championship began in 1895 and is the oldest golf championship in this country.
