PSU Men's and Women's Soccer to Host 'Meet-and-Greet' for Fans Wednesday

Aug 19, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The defending Big Ten champion Penn State men's and women's soccer teams will host a meet-and-greet for fans of all ages Wednesday night at Jeffrey Field. An autograph session will be held at 5:30 pm with open practices to follow.

Both sides are off to a strong start in preseason play as the No. 4 women's soccer team earned a 5-2 home victory over Navy, while the men defeated Nebraska-Omaha, 1-0, Saturday night.

Slated to win its 16th consecutive conference title in the Big Ten preseason poll, the women's soccer team returns 8-of-11 starters to a squad that went 21-4-2 in 2012 en route to a national runner-up finish. Among the standouts is two-time NSCAA first team All-America Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.), who scored two goals against Navy.

On the men's side, the Nittany Lions return 16 letterwinners to a team that captured its first Big Ten title since 2005. The midfield is anchored by stalwarts Grant Warming (Omaha, Neb.) and Owen Griffith (Lewisburg, Pa.), while junior Andrew Wolverton (Snellville, Ga.) is back to man the pipes.

The men's soccer team returns to action Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. for an exhibition against No. 2 Maryland at Jeffrey Field, while the women's soccer team opens regular season play at home against West Virginia Friday at 7:30 p.m.
