Penn State finishes in 13th Place at the Cougar Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State closed out their first tournament of the year on a positive note as the Nittany Lions shot a team low score of 296. The Nittany Lions finished the tournament in 13th place with 897 strokes, which put them 33 strokes over par.

Penn State was led by junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.), who shot a career low round of 68 to finish the tournament at two strokes over par. The junior's 218 (76,74,68) strokes placed her in a tie for 19th place as she moved up 30 spots in the leaderboard from the beginning of the day. Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) finished the tournament in a tie for 30th place as she shot a third round score of 70. The Bethany Beach native finished at four strokes over par for the tournament with 220 (75,75,70) shots.

Head Coach Denise St. Pierre was quoted as saying, "It's nice to know how we stack up against good teams. We beat seven good teams but we still need to come together for the team score. I am very proud of Ellen [Ceresko] and Christina [Vosters] as they played terrific today."

The University of Florida overtook Clemson on the final day to win the Cougar Classic as the Gators shot a third round score of 281 for a total score of 859. Florida edged out second place Clemson by one stroke. Anna Young of the University of Florida won the Cougar Classic individual contest as she shot a third round 67 to put her at five shots under par for the tournament.

Penn State is next headed off to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate, a tournament the Nittany Lions won last season.
