LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Penn State men's golf team finished the Windon Memorial Classic Monday tied-for-13th place, shooting a 297 in the final round to total an 898.
Sophomore JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) moved up ten places from day one of the tournament, finishing tied-for-27th with a 221 (70-78-73) tally. Junior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) shot a 78 in round three, to bring his score to 226 with a tied-for-49th place finish.
Sophomore Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) played his best round on the final 18 holes, posting a 73 to bring his three-round score to a 228 and a tied-for-57th placing. One stroke behind Houston was sophomore Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.), who also marked his best score of 73 in the final round. Vartelas finish tied-for-61st with a 229. Junior Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway park, N.Y.) matched Vartelas, marking a 75-75-79 in rounds one, two, and three, respectively.
Northwestern earned the 2013 Windon Memorial Classic team crown, posting a 4-under-par 860 in three rounds. Michigan's Chris O'Neill shot an outstanding 8-under-par 208 to win the individual title.
The Nittany Lions will continue their fall campaign Oct. 11-13 for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn.
