UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman striker Mark Wadid (Mississauga, Ont.) captured his first weekly honors on Monday. Wadid was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while earning a spot on College Soccer News' Team of the Week.
Wadid tallied two goals this past week, accounting for all of Penn State's offense in a pair of 1-0 wins over Robert Morris and Duquesne. Wadid's three goals this season have come in a trio of 1-0 Penn State victories. The Nittany Lions sit at 4-2-1 entering Wednesday's game at West Virginia (7 p.m.).
The Big Ten and College Soccer News honors are the first of his career. Moreover, Wadid became the first Nittany Lion since Aug. 29, 2011 to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors (Minh Vu). Wadid shares the award with Northwestern's Chris Ritter who had a matching two-goal week.
