Penn State Hosts Nittany Lion Invitational

Sept. 26, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- After competing in two tournaments on the road to open the season, the Penn State women's golf team returns home to host the annual Nittany Lion Invitational. Penn State, victorious in last year's tournament, looks to continue their success as they have won two of the last three tournaments on their home course. The tournament is being held at the Penn State Blue Course, which is a par-72 6,263 yard long course. The three day long tournament begins on Friday, September 27 with tee times beginning at 11:15 a.m. and concluding on Sunday, September 29 with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun.

A total of 14 teams will compete this weekend including: Old Dominion, Columbia, Yale, Georgetown, Longwood, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio University, Bucknell, Western Michigan, Kent State and William & Mary.

Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) looks to pick up where she left off last year as she became the 13th Nittany Lion to win the tournament in 2012. Ceresko shot her season low of 69 in the first and second rounds of the tournament last season, beating out her teammate and current senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) by seven strokes. Vosters shot the team low score of 68 in the second round of the NLI last season and went on to finish tied for second place.

Fans are encouraged to come out to the golf course this weekend and support the Nittany Lions, as different give-a-ways will be featured throughout the weekend. Friday is student day, and free t-shirts will be handed out along with other great prizes to students who come out to the course.

On Sunday, there will be a sendoff with the cheerleaders as Penn State tees and students are encouraged to stick around after the round is complete for a meet and greet with the players along with free range balls and ice cream. The "Lion Limo" will also run at various times during the weekend, offering students free access to the course. The shuttle will pick up in front of Rec Hall.
