Penn State in Third Place After Round Two at Nittany Lion Invitational

Sept. 28, 2013

Round Two Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- With the second round coming to a close at the Nittany Lion Invitational, the Penn State women's golf team is sitting in third place with one round to go. The Nittany Lions shot a second round 298 to put their two round total to 591, just nine shots away from Kent State, who is leading the competition.

With just one more round of the Nittany Lion Invitational left in her career, senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) looks to go out in style with a win as she is just two shots from the leader. Vosters shot a second round 75 to put her at even par for the tournament along with being in a tie for fourth place. Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) is just one stroke behind Vosters as she recorded a 73 to put her at one over par with one round to play. The Nittany Lions have four golfers in the top 20 including juniors Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) and Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec).

"I think they each had some good things happen. In particular, Ellen and Christina had slow starts but managed to keep it going and finish strong. Grace played very consistent and short of a few putts falling, she could have had a sub par round," said head coach Denise St. Pierre when asked about on how the girls did today. "We are so close to breaking through, I know it will happen. Perhaps as soon as tomorrow, which of course would be ideal."

The third and final round of the Nittany Lion Invitational concludes tomorrow, September 29 with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Fans are encouraged to come out to the course tomorrow, as there will be a sendoff with the cheerleaders as Penn State tees off. Students are encouraged to stick around after the round is complete for a meet and greet with the players along with free range balls and ice cream. The "Lion Limo" will also run at various times during the weekend, offering students free access to the course. The shuttle will pick up in front of Rec Hall.

Kent State leads the tournament by one stroke over Yale as the Golden Flashes have 582 strokes through two rounds. There is a three-way tie for the individual lead as Josee Doyon, Jennifer Ha, and Sandy Wongwaiwate all are at two shots under par.
