UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn state sophomore Raquel Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her performances against Purdue and Indiana this past week. Rodriguez posted two goals and one assist to help lead the Nittany Lions past the Boilermakers and Hoosiers, extending PSU's winning streak to eight-straight matches.
The midfielder registers her first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor after notching the first goal in both of PSU's games and assisting on the game-winning goal against Purdue on Thursday.
Rodriguez received the ball on a cross from teammate Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) and was able to find the back of the net from eight yards out to give the Blue and White a 1-0 lead at the 6:05 mark against the Boilermakers. She put the Lions on the board early against Indiana as well, heading in a cross from Emily Hurd (Sammamish,Wash.) in the seventh minute.
Rodriguez leads the team and is tied for second in the conference in assists this season with seven. She is also tied for fourth in the league in assists per game (0.64).
The Nittany Lions (9-1-1, 3-0-0 Big Ten) hit the road for two B1G matches this weekend. PSU will face Wisconsin on Friday at 8:00 p.m. (EST) before taking on Minnesota on Sunday in a 2:00 p.m. (EST) match-up.
