JONESBOROUGH, Tenn., Oct. 12, 2013 - With one round remaining in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, the Penn State men's golf team is presently in 13th place after shooting a 295 on day two, tallying a total score of 600.
Sophomore JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) is leading the Nittany Lions after having moved up four spots from round one, sitting tied-for-25th overall with a 36-hole score of 144 (73-71). Tied-for-50th is junior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.), who holds a 149 total heading into the final 18 holes.
Junior Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) posted a 75 in the second round, placing him tied-for-60th with a 153. Sophomore Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) is one stroke behind McDonald-Smith with a 154 mark. Rounding out the Nittany Lion roster is freshman Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.), who shot a 175 through 36 holes.
Freshman Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) is playing as an individual in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and is tied-for-56th overall, tallying a 151 (72-79).
Kent State is presently holding on to the first place position heading into the third day of competition with a two stroke lead over Virginia Tech.
The final 18 holes of play begin Sunday, Oct. 13 with one half of the field teeing off at 8:30 a.m. and the other half starting at 9 a.m. Penn State will begin a promptly 9 a.m.
